Army of Darkness Montezuma's Revenge Complete OA by Dave Simons

You are bidding on a lot consisting of all the original art published for the Evil Dead franchise one-shot ARMY OF DARKNESS, MONTEZUMA'S REVENGE 2009 comic book from Dynamite Entertainment. This art was hand-penciled & inked entirely by artist DAVE SIMONS, an only occasional opportunity in his career. Dave even cut his own Bristol boards to approximately 11"x17" size. There are 22 sequential pages. Since Dave hand-rendered all the art these are not blueline inks but his actual inks over his actual pencils. Finding a complete story available (there is no cover available with this lot) from a single buyer is quite uncommon and Dave rendered this artwork shortly before he'd pass away from a second bout of cancer. It's been in his sister Bette's home for just over 15 years and as reported in a news article from May 27 of this past year and is part of the Dave Simons Estate Collection that Bette Simons donated to support the official 501(c)(3) non-profit Inkwell Awards on the 15th anniversary of his passing in 2009. This lot comes with a COA. NOTE: as seen in the reference files, the backside of page 22 also has a female nude sketch by Dave.

The Inkwell Awards is the only official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and educate regarding the art form of comic-book inking, as well as annually recognize the best ink artists and their work. Established in 2008, the Inkwells are overseen by a volunteer committee of industry professionals and assisted by various professional ambassadors and contributors. They sponsor the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Kubert School and host the Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Award. Their annual awards ceremony has been hosted by the Hershey Comic Con since 2024.
