Mister Sinister Original Art

Nathaniel Essex is a Victorian geneticist obsessed with the Summers bloodline. Mister Sinister is a glam-rock villain—pale skin, forehead diamond, and a cape made of streamers. His visual design by Marc Silvestri is flamboyant and terrifying. He represents the cold, calculating side of mutant evolution.

Artists love drawing his cape, which seems to have a life of its own. He is often depicted in a lab or manipulating events from the shadows. Key storylines like Mutant Massacre and Inferno feature him as the mastermind.

He is obsessed with Cyclops and Jean Grey, believing their offspring is the ultimate mutant. He created Madelyne Pryor (Jean's clone) and manipulated Gambit. He often clashes with Apocalypse.
