Roger Original Art - Page 12

Roger the Homunculus is the Frankenstein's Monster of the Mignolaverse. Discovered in a medieval alchemist's lab by Liz Sherman, he is an artificial man powered by blood and electricity. Visually, Roger is distinct—a large, hairless figure with a metal valve in his chest. Mike Mignola and Guy Davis draw him with a heavy, lumbering grace.

He is the heart of the BPRD team. Despite his lack of a soul (initially), he is often the most human characters. Collectors look for pages showing his "birth" or his heroic sacrifices. He requires a recharge of electricity to function, leading to dramatic scenes.

He looks up to Hellboy as a big brother figure. His bond with Liz Sherman, who gave him life (and whom he drained energy from), is complex and central to the series.
