Today, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Ashley Witter, an incredible artist whose work spans major publishers including Marvel, DC Comics, Dynamite, and more. Ashley is celebrated for her gorgeous cover and interior artwork, pairing expressive storytelling with standout visuals. Alongside her comic work, she also works in animation, a lifelong passion that began in her youth.

Tell us about yourself and what got you interested in drawing

Hiya, I’m Ashley Witter, professional artist and mother of two amazing young boys, Wolf & Hawk! I had the art-bug at a very young age. My father owned and operated a printshop, and my brother was into collecting comics. I grew up with Nat Geo, Bob Ross, Marvel comics, unlimited art supplies, and a desire to tell stories with my art. I was heavily inspired by animation which led me to storyboarding, and sequential art for my own hit indie comic, Squarriors, written by my partner in love and creativity, Ash Maczko!

Who were some of your early inspirations?

I was heavily inspired by everything animated in the 80s and early 90s. Disney, Warner, Nickelodeon, Toei, MTV, Rankin/Bass, Don Bluth, Hannah Barbara, to name a few. I also had an older brother who influenced my interest in video games, comics, and anime. I’ll never forget the first time I discovered a VHS of Akira… I was in grade school, but super into it. haha.

What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?

My favorite, and first big project, was adapting Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire: Claudia’s Story into a graphic novel, which was a dream come true for me. My favorite comics I’ve worked on are Squarriors, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, X-23, Dazzler, and Harley Quinn. Most recently, I had the pleasure of working in animation on The Mighty Nein and Street Fighter!

Favorite character(s) to draw?

I draw a LOT of Harley and X-23. Gabby and Jonathan are the most fun to draw. I’m also a big David Lynch fan, always have been. I recently started drawing some Twin Peaks fanart over on IG.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on a couple of comic projects with Ash, including a Sleepy Hollow inspired horror series called Them Sleepy Hollow Boys. We’re actively pitching to publishers and hoping to find a home for it this year! I’ve also been illustrating some covers for PANICK Entertainment and Marvel. And drawing fun pieces of art on Raremarq!

Where can fans find you?

I’m on Facebook and Instagram. I have a personal website and online store. Of course, you can also find my most recent works here on RAREMARQ
