Welcome to Our Newest Edition of Creator Spotlight!

Our recurring feature that shines a light on creators selling original art on the Raremarq marketplace, offering fans an inside look at their journeys.

Today, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Deuza, a French artist celebrated for his signature pin-up style that seamlessly blends the charm of animation with his own unique flair. Over the years, he’s built a strong and dedicated following across social media, where fans can explore a wide range of his vibrant and captivating creations.

Tell us about yourself and what got you interested in drawing

I’m a French artist from a small island in the Indian Ocean who moved to mainland France where I currently live. I started drawing when I became a stay-at-home dad back in 2018 as a mean to pass the time in the rare instances I could put my newborn to sleep. My initial goal was to draw a science fiction comic, inspired by the works of Moebius and Jodorowsky. The scope of my project lead me to procrastinate often, and so I would draw pinups on the side to escape my self-inflicted responsibilities. Soon enough, I had gathered half a dozen of these recreative drawings and decided I would post them online under a secondary account named Deuza.

Who were some of your early inspirations?

I grew up reading a lot of European comics (Bande dessinée) and very little manga or US comics. Loisel, Moebius and Enki Bilal were my favorite authors and opened my mind to the endless possibilities of telling stories with illustration. But I was also reading a lot of Spirou comics like Gaston by Franquin or Le Petit Spirou by Janry which I think heavily influenced my stylistic approach to drawing (more cartoony and dynamic). Finally, I was an avid reader of Fluide Glacial magazine, which introduced me to more mature and erotic themes. When I (finally) started drawing at age 29, and consciously researching approaches to drawing pinups, I was influenced by Dylan Ekren, Robato, Myinputwo and of course the great Alberto Ruiz, whom I had the chance to be tutored by for a year.

What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?

My personal comic, Muse, although as history tends to repeat itself, I don’t work on it nearly as much as I should. I also had the chance to work on several tattoo designs, which is crazy for me to think about people walking around with my art on their skin. And then there is the Pinuptober challenge, which happens every year, where I challenge myself to draw 1 pinup everyday live for every day of October following a prompt list. This was derived from the well known Inktober challenge but I geared it towards Pinups and many artists have been joining the challenge since.

Favorite character(s) to draw?

My own! But if I had to pick one from pop culture it would be Lara Croft. I used to play the first few Tomb Raider games on the PS1 back in the day. It was very unusual to have a female main character back then, and no one cared for realistic proportions of made-up polygons. So this insanely hot and badass chick was ours to play and the adventures and story was just as good. I don’t play much video games today, but I give every new Tomb Raider game a shot, and although they’re very good I think we’re still missing a little of over-the-top careless fun of the OG.

What are you currently working on?

I am working on a series of illustrations for a collectible card series called Booty And Beauties, on the theme of Pirates and I’m also sharing sketches, tutorial and short nsfw comics on Patreon.

What inspired you to start using Raremarq and what are you auctioning?

Over the year I’ve tried many platforms for connecting my artworks to potential buyer and none really stuck. Raremarq is the first (and only one as far as I’m aware) to be specifically made for illustration and ticks all the boxes in terms of ease of use and features. I usually sell my artworks through DMs of people reaching out to me, and never had the opportunity to auction them. I’m very happy that Raremarq is making it possible for me to offer this first series of Heroes at the Beach featuring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Supergirl!

Where can fans find you?

I’m mainly active on Instagram under @deuza_art and on Patreon, but I have accounts on most social media platforms (Facebook, X, Bluesky, TikTok).
