Welcome to Our Newest Edition of Creator Spotlight!

Our recurring feature that shines a light on comic creators selling original art on the Raremarq marketplace, offering fans an inside look at their journeys and contributions to the industry.

Today, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on French comic artist Mathieu Reynès, an exceptional talent known for his groundbreaking work on the graphic novels Water Memory and Harmony. More recently, Reynès has taken the lead as the main creative force behind the hit series The Theory of K.O., published by Nakama Press.

Mathieu’s artwork is fresh, expressive, and incredibly easy on the eyes, earning him a massive following on social media. We were thrilled when he reached out about joining the platform, having been introduced to us through our mutual friend, El Gunto.

So without further ado, let’s dive into the interview.

Tell us about yourself and what got you interested in drawing

I have been a comic book author and illustrator for 25 years. What I love above all is telling stories, and drawing felt like the most intuitive and easiest way for me to do it.

Who were some of your early inspirations?

My inspirations were very diverse—French, Spanish, American, Japanese creators… there are so many! The ones who truly left a mark on me during my teenage years and probably motivated me the most to become an author are Adam Hughes, J. Scott Campbell, Masamune Shirow, Yukito Kishiro and most of all Katsuhiro Otomo.

What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?

I would say my previous series, Harmony, my first series as a complete author.

Seven volumes where I was able to fully embrace my influences from American comics, European graphic novels, and Japanese manga—packed with action, humor, and superpowers.

Favorite character(s) to draw?

To be honest I prefer drawing my own characters, but I always enjoy drawing popular ones like Harley Quinn, Chun Li, Wolverine or The Joker.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on the third and final volume of my hybrid comic/manga series, The Theory of K.O.

What inspired you to start using Raremarq and what are you auctioning?

I started seeing a lot of fellow artists speaking highly of their experience on Raremarq, so I wanted to give it a try! I will auction some fanarts I made and probably some original pages of my books.

Where can fans find you?

You can find me on Instagram where I share my works and keep contact with followers.

Be sure to check out Mathieu's current Chun Li and Harley Quinn originals up for auction!
