Welcome to our very first Creator Spotlight!
This recurring feature will shine a light on comic creators selling original art on the Raremarq marketplace, offering fans an inside look at their journeys and contributions to the industry.
To kick things off, we’re proud to introduce Tim Shinn, a talented artist who honed his craft under the legendary Neal Adams. Get ready to explore Tim’s origins, inspirations, and the unique work he brings to the world of comics!
Tell us about yourself
I’m a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I started working as a professional in 1996 when I moved to NY and worked as a storyboard artist in a studio that provided art for most of the major Manhattan advertising agencies for countless clients like Gillette, Budweiser, Hasbro and Mattel.
In 2001, I became a freelancer. Ad work continued but I also took work doing pre viz work for an FX studio, creating pitch material for animated projects and vfx design work for clients like Disney.
During the early 2000s, I started working for Continuity Studios, coloring storyboards, comps and animatics for the great Neal Adams.
Work for Neal included many advertising clients but also projects like Marvel amusement park ride designs and package art for the revived Bucky O’Hare toys line by Boss Fight Studios.
Who were some of your early inspirations?
I’ve been drawing since the age of 3. I loved animation and that was my initial inspiration to draw. By the age of 10, comics became a big influence. Too many favorite artists to name, but some of the top are Michael Golden, Klaus Jansen, Walter Simonson and John Romita Sr.
Where might fans have seen your work?
In 2013, Neal returned to comics on a more regular basis and I began coloring many of the variant covers for IDW, Dynamite, Dark Horse, and DC Comics and mini series covers and interiors on titles like Deadman, Harley Quinn, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Batman vs Ra’s Al Ghul
Favorite character(s) to draw?
I love to draw so many things. I draw everyday, all day long. From the time I was a kid, I’ve loved drawing GI Joe and Transformers. As a professional, I was lucky enough to work on many Transformers toy commercials during the Bay era. These days, I love drawing dinosaurs. Specifically, the dinosaurs in the graphic novels I’ve been working on for nearly 3 years now. The books are called Mega Galactic and the main character is a T-Rex named Clutch Remington, swashbuckling hero and space Captain.
Where can fans find you?
I’m very easy to find online. I mainly post on Instagram these days, but I’m still on sites like Facebook and Deviantart
