Tell us about yourself and what got you interested in drawing

I am an Australian based artist that started drawing at a young age by watching my older family members draw. This led me down the rabbit hole of art, which I’ve been pursuing ever since. Art and drawing helped me get through a lot of life’s challenges and taught me to become more resilient and to continue striving to improve in all aspects of life.

Who were some of your early inspirations?

One of the earliest inspirations that I can remember was when a local illustrator came to visit my school when I was in grade one. He recited his storybook he had recently published while simultaneously drawing a pastel illustration based on his book. This experience never left me and planted the initial seed to become an artist one day. Teenage inspirations were the classic anime and manga like Dragon Ball, Ninja Scroll, Akira, Berserk and Ghost in the Shell, then in adulthood they were Kim Jung Gi, Terada Katsuya and Shinakawa Yoji.

What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?

Some of my favourite projects to work on were my collaborations with Square Enix to create a promotional piece for Final Fantasy 16 as well as the recent UFC 320 Artist Series and the Singapore Comic Con exclusive Transformers #24 Variant Cover. These projects were meaningful to me because it felt as if I finally achieved a milestone in my art career, all the sacrifices leading up to this point felt worth it.

Favorite character(s) to draw?

Some of my favourite characters to draw are anything dark fantasy and badass warriors but I also love drawing cyberpunk. I’m starting to explore and push my art to have deeper story telling and full compositions so I’ve begun to enjoy drawing anything and everything.

What are you currently working on?

A project I’ve been working on and developing for the past couple of years is an illustrated story book for my kids. It’s a fantasy story where the three kids must go on a quest of discovery, fighting monsters and battling for the future of their world. Just like how the illustrator in grade one planted the seed in me as a kid, this is something I’d like to do for my own children to show you can accomplish the dream.
