Today, we're exciting to share that we're simplifying our bidding options on Nerd Crawler auctions to make things easier and reduce confusion.
For the full context behind how we got here, it's important to know where we started from.
When we started auctions back in August 2023, we wanted to launch something quickly to help Big Wow! Art raise funds for charity while also providing flexible options for bidding so we launched with:
🛝 a slide-to-bid with a suggested incremental bid that would bid instantly for you
👩⚖️ if you wanted to bid more than the slide amount we had a box that allowed you to enter a custom bid that would also bid instantly
After being live for a few weeks, we got feedback that people were busy, and they wanted a way to bid without being online so we added "Create Max Bid", which lets you put a high bid amount and we'll automatically bid up the next increment for you to make you the highest bidder or until you're out bid by another bidder or max bid.
But this was the straw that broke the camels back and having three bidding options was confusing.
What a custom bid be instant?
How is custom bid and max bid different?
This caused unintended confusion, and our mission has always been to be the easiest way to sell and buy original comic art. So, this weekend, we simplified bidding to just two bidding options:
🛝 Instant slide-to-bid
🤖 Automated max bids
For any bidders that were confused when we had three bidding options, we are so sorry, and please let us know if this change makes this better! Also, if you ever have feedback, please email us any time at [email protected]! A huge thank you to Frank Cho, Khoi Pham, and other artists and collectors who helped us realize this problem and make this swap ❤️
A valid shipping address and default payment method are required to bid.
Slide the bid slider all the way to the right to make a bid at the suggested amount. Sliding will instantly create a bid, and the next bid amount will be based on the current bid and the next increment:
You can create a max bid to bid automatically for you up to your max bid.
If a bid is made near the end of an auction, the auction end time will be extended by 30 seconds to prevent sniping.
By sliding to bid, you commit to buy the listing if you are the winning bidder. If you are the winner, we will charge your default payment method 24 hours after the auction ends, or you can complete payment early by visiting the order detail page. If your default payment method fails or you fail to make payment for an auction you've won, your account will be at risk of being frozen.
