Gambit Original Art - Page 12

Remy LeBeau, the Ragin' Cajun. Gambit is the definition of 90s cool. Kinetic energy (charged playing cards) and a trench coat make him one of the most stylish characterss to draw. Artists love the challenge of rendering the "pink energy" signature of his powers and the flow of his coat in action sequences.

His debut in Uncanny X-Men #266 is a major key, and art from that era by Mike Collins or Jim Lee is the bedrock of Gambit collecting. The characters's visual has remained remarkably consistent, which helps with brand recognition. Pages featuring him throwing cards—especially if the cards have visible suits (Ace of Spades, etc.)—command a premium because they are so specific to his characters.

Gambit is rarely seen without Rogue. Their romance is one of the longest-running soap operas in X-Men history, and "Romance Pages" featuring the two are highly liquid assets. He also has a dark past with Mister Sinister and the Marauders, providing opportunities for grittier, flashback-style art.
