Lex Luthor is the apex of human achievement and arrogance. He hates Superman not because he is evil, but because the alien makes human achievement meaningless. Visually, he is defined by his bald head and his green-and-purple Warsuit. He is one of the few villains who can fight Superman physically (with the suit) and intellectually.

Artists like Gary Frank capture his smug superiority perfectly. Whether he is a corrupt businessman, a mad scientist, or the President of the United States, Luthor commands every panel he is in. The All-Star Superman version is a philosophical masterpiece.

He often teams up with (and betrays) The Joker and Brainiac. He has a bodyguard named Mercy Graves.
