The Penguin Original Art

Oswald Cobblepot, The Penguin, is the gentleman of crime. Unlike other rogues who are insane, the Penguin is a businessman, and his art reflects the seedy underbelly of Gotham's high society. Whether he's in the Iceberg Lounge or wielding a trick umbrella, he brings a unique silhouette—short, round, and formally dressed—that contrasts with the statuesque heroes. Batman often has to intimidate him for information, leading to great "interrogation" scenes.

Artists love drawing the Penguin's umbrellas, which can fire bullets, gas, or blades. The monocle and cigarette holder are essential details. Tim Sale drawn a particularly memorable, monstrous version in The Long Halloween, while others stick to the gangster aesthetic. He is a fixture of the Gotham underworld.

He employs many other villains, so pages might feature him hiring Deathstroke or Deadshot. His interactions with Catwoman are often tense, as they are both thieves at heart. He represents organized crime in Gotham, distinct from the chaos of The Joker.
