Kathy is the tragic girlfriend of Stanley Ipkiss in the original The Mask comics. Unlike the movie version (played by Cameron Diaz), the comic version of Kathy is caught in a much darker, grittier world. Visually, she represents the innocent bystander pulled into the chaos of the Big Head killer.
Her role is pivotal in the first arc. She is the one who ultimately stops Stanley's rampage, delivering the fatal shot that ends his life. This twist—that the "hero" is killed by his love interest—defined the nihilistic tone of the series. She eventually gives the mask to Lieutenant Kellaway.
